Returned, Scene #01

A strange young man who introduces himself as John (Joshua Lewis) and acts as though he knows Susan (Reagan Foxx) pays her a surprise visit. However, Susan finds that incomprehensible, as the only John she is familiar with is her late husband, who passed away more than 18 years ago. The young man, however, asserts that he has been reborn and that he IS that John. Susan gets angry, believing this to be a mean joke, but John divulges personal information that he wouldn't have known if he were just any stranger. Susan begins to question her own cynicism, particularly after the man posing as John expresses regret for the previous end of his life. He says that although he was receiving treatment for his PTSD in private, things eventually got to be too much for him. Susan is taken aback. John expresses his regret for the suffering he has caused her and declares his intention to take full advantage of their second opportunity by getting married to her again. John gives Susan his phone number as she is still undecided and walks away. A few days later, Susan is calling her younger sister Evelyn, who is begging her to leave this man who claims to be John. Susan is torn since he knows so much that only John could know, yet Evelyn and the rest of her family think this man is simply a dishonest gold digger. After putting Evelyn on hold, Susan chooses to give the number John left her a call. When John shows up later that day, Susan tells him that her family disapproves of what's happening and that she's overwhelmed. Susan can't bear the idea that perhaps she is losing out on a second chance with her husband, even though John apologizes She begs him to stay, telling him that only if they get close will she truly know that he is her late husband—there were some things she liked that only John would know about.
